"Fraudsters are now using a customer's real information to carry out online bookings. Prior to lockdown, the card fraudsters would use actual passport name and surname but all other information would be bogus," says Waldeck. "However, they have now started to use real information with regards to billing address, email IDs, etc., which makes it lot more difficult to spot."

He advices using open-source intelligence tools to reduce fraudulent transactions.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Waldeck also discusses:

  • Ways to spot direct as well as indirect red flags;
  • New fraud trends in the airline industry;
  • How open-source intelligence tools can help reduce fraud.

Waldeck is senior forensic investigator at Comair Limited (CFE), a South African airline company. He has been involved in the aviation industry for more than 17 years, mainly in the areas of credit card fraud investigation and prevention.
