Organizations need to look at privacy at a strategic and "almost cellular level" that is in constant motion, says Michelle Dennedy, CEO of PrivacyCode. "It's generative privacy."

In the meantime, the U.S. appears to be "losing ground" in data privacy, due in large part to the fact that there is still no national privacy law at the federal level, she says.

"The rest of the world is really picking up speed here. Almost 75% of the world is governed by a GDPR-like scheme," she said.
