Blinken covered the broader risks to the U.S. tech industry - not just cyberattacks. "Whether it's quantum computing, whether it's artificial intelligence, whether it's gains in semi-conductor chips, how can this be harnessed in alignment with Western values and how can we not have this IP or advancement driven by the adversary?" said Michael Novinson, editor, ISMG business.

The panelists - Novinson; Mathew Schwartz, executive editor, DataBreachToday and Europe; Tom Field, senior vice president, editorial; and Rahul Neel Mani, vice president of community and editorial - discussed:

  • Blinken's keynote speech on plans by the Biden administration to spend $3.5 trillion to enhance America's technological competitiveness while driving international collaborations to set standards that ensure safe and ethical use of emerging technology such as artificial intelligence;
  • Venture capitalists' picks for investments in cybersecurity technology;
  • Trends in risk quantification and risk management - and how to communicate risk to the board.
