Forrester Analyst Allie Mellen on Navigating the XDR Market

The current state of the XDR market is a "chaotic jumble of different features," according to Forrester analyst Allie Mellon, who has authored a new study to identify the top XDR providers in the industry, The Forrester New Wave: Extended Detection And Response (XDR) Providers, Q4 2021.

Mellen offers advice to security leaders about the questions they should be asking their prospective XDR vendors. "These vendors are moving very quickly, so I do recommend talking to them about what their next steps are and what their road map looks like. Look at the MITRE ATT&CK evaluations to determine detection efficacy because that's a really important component of XDR."

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Mellen discusses:

  • Key highlights from the new study;
  • Reasons for what she calls the "deep divide in the XDR market" and the main differentiating factors between leading vendors and those who fall behind;
  • How security leaders can use the findings from the report and what questions they should be asking their prospective XDR vendors.

Mellen is a Forrester analyst supporting security and risk professionals. She covers all aspects of security infrastructure and operations - the people, processes and tools of the SOC - including security analysts; security information and event management; security user behavior analytics; security analytics; security orchestration, automation and response; endpoint detection and response; extended detection and response; and SOC metrics. Her research focuses on where analytics, detection, automation and response are headed in the security industry.
