DIACC: Building a Fully Digital Canada

Joni Brennan on Identity Being Core to a Socioeconomic Safety Net
Joni Brennan, president, DIACC

Joni Brennan, president of the Digital ID & Authentication Council of Canada (DIACC), says identity management is a core component to building a solid foundation for a socioeconomic safety net, particularly during a pandemic. However, engagement and education are also vital components to establishing a strong structure.

To create a "digital Canada", it’s essential to build trust and prioritise “engagement and education” with communities. “When we talk about the concept of trust, we really have to put ourselves as best as we can into the context of the people whom we want to build this trust with,” she explains.

In a video interview with Information Security Media Group, Brennan discusses:

  • How DIACC is working to establish an identity trust framework;
  • Building public trust in digital identities;
  • The need for public and private sector collaboration to deliver digital identity as the foundation of a socioeconomic safety net.

As president DIACC, Brennan builds on more than 15 years of experience in Digital Identity innovations and standards development. She has participated in committees and initiatives around the world including: OECD-ITAC, ISOC, IEEE, OASIS-SSTC, ISO SC27 WG5, and she has testified before the U.S. Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology Security and Privacy (ONC HITSP).
