Elsevier Cybersecurity VP Shares His Leadership Journey and Challenges
Aman Sood began his career in cybersecurity as a help desk analyst, handling tasks such as resetting user passwords and providing technical support. His early roles involved progressing through second- and third-line support, end-user computing and Microsoft certification, and they led him further into cybersecurity.

Sood's role as CISO at smaller organizations required him to wear multiple hats, including handling everything from hardware orders, endpoint configurations and strategic board updates to speaking to customers. "In a larger organization, it's a much more matrix-managed environment," he said.
Sood emphasized the need for security leaders to engage with the business, ensuring security is integrated at all levels. "Some of the biggest challenges are raising awareness and the profile of security. As security leaders, sometimes we're focused on the technical aspects. We can feel a bit overwhelmed with all of the domains that we have to manage, and we take our eye off the business side. But business engagement is key," he said.
