Unlike the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation, the California Consumer Protection Act is very prescriptive in nature, says Subhajit Deb, CISO of Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, a global pharmaceutical company.

"There are certain disclosures, certain methods of communications... everything has been very explicitly laid out," Deb says of the California law, which goes into effect Jan. 1, 2020.

Before becoming CISO at Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Deb was CISO at Max Life Insurance. He has also managed global information security at Bank of America and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. Deb has more than 16 years of experience in leading and managing global information security, business continuity, risk management and data privacy programs.
