Bank of America Says Outage Not Caused by Attack
Bank of America customers across the country were denied access to their online accounts last Friday, as the bank suffered a serious Internet outage.Customers reported they were unable to access the online banking portal of the country's largest bank. Only about 20 percent of the bank's nearly 30 million online customers were able to get to their accounts.
The bank has ruled out a cyber attack, but was still unable to isolate the cause of the outage.
Bank of America has one of the most widely-used websites in the financial services industry. Customers complained about problems accessing the site on Twitter beginning about noon, the bank says.
This is the first issue that Brian Moynihan, who took over for Ken Lewis at Bank of America earlier this month, has to address when he returns to the U.S. from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
