Former White House cybersecurity official and cybersecurity executive Jeff Greene will join the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Multiple media outlets reported that Greene will replace outgoing official Eric Goldstein as executive assistant director for cybersecurity, although the agency has not confirmed it. CNN first reported that Greene will take on the duties of CISA's most senior official focused exclusively on cybersecurity.

"We can confirm that Jeff Greene is joining CISA in early June," an agency spokesman said.

Goldstein is planning to return to the private sector after stepping down on an unspecified date in June, a CISA spokesperson earlier told Information Security Media Group. CISA Director Jen Easterly said in a statement that under Goldstein's direction the agency "pioneered new models of operational collaboration" and "reshaped our ability to detect and address cyber risks" (see: Top US Cyber Defense Official Eric Goldstein to Step Down).

Greene is currently senior director for cybersecurity programs at The Aspen Institute. He joined the think tank in July 2022 after serving for approximately 18 months as the chief for cyber response and policy in the National Security Council's Cyber Directorate. He was director of the National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence at the National Institute of Standards and Technology for a little over a year before heading to the White House.

Greene spent eight years as senior director and vice president for policy at Symantec before it split into separate enterprise and consumer-focused companies.
